Have You Been Stuck in the Same Job Role for Too Long?

Team Notes

Do you feel like you have been stuck in the same job for too long? Are you not benefitting from any opportunities to progress, despite feeling like you are a valuable part of the team? Do you feel like you are overlooked and you are never going to progress any further? You would be surprised by how many people feel this way. Nevertheless, jumping ship can be a very big decision, and it is something that a lot of people feel incredibly nervous about. So, to make sure this is the correct move for you, let’s take a look at some of the key signs that you have been in the job for too long…

You are counting your sick days – Have you been counting your sick days lately to see whether you have had too many in a row and it looks suspicious? If you find yourself making excuses for not going to work, this is a clear sign that you are in the wrong job. No one should dread going to work every morning. You are going to spend the majority of your life in work, so it is critical that you enjoy being there.

You are on autopilot – We all have days where we feel like we are on autopilot. However, if this is your constant state, then it is definitely something to be concerned about. If you spend your days hammering away at your keyboard and your mind is not engaged, surely you would be better off putting your brain to use elsewhere?

You are being overlooked for promotions – This is one of the key signs that you are not in the right job. If you are putting in all of your efforts and working hard to improve yourself, yet this is not being recognised or rewarded, then maybe you cannot progress at the company you are working for. However, it is important to ask yourself one key question: are you being discriminated against? Do you feel that you are being unfairly overlooked for promotions? If this is the case, you could be entitled to compensation, which would be a real financial help while looking for a new job. The best thing to do is look for experienced workers compensation attorneys online. Contact a firm and explain your situation. They will be able to tell you whether you have the basis for a successful claim or not.

You no longer participate in other aspects of your life – If you are miserable at work, this can often flow over into your home life. There is a difference between coming home tired after a long day at the office and being completely burnt out. If the latter applies, you need to ask yourself if it is worth. There are so many people that come home from work so drained and exhausted that it completely destroys their personal life. They come home, binge on some food in bed, and go to sleep. They stop socialising as much and they don’t get enjoyment from the things they used to. Does this sound familiar?

You feel like all of your creativity has been sapped – Finally, it does not matter what industry you work in, it is vital to spend the vast majority of your time being inspired by your job. You shouldn’t feel beaten down by it; that is for sure. If you feel like all of your creative energy is being drained, then all of your joy is probably being drained with it. If your job is not allowing you to keep your creative juices flowing, then maybe you would be better off working elsewhere? You

If any of the signs that have been mentioned above sound familiar, there is a high chance that you have been in your job for too long. While it can be very stressful – the thought of upping sticks and looking for a new place of work – it could be the thing that makes you. You can find yourself in a role and company you are more comfortable in, and you can take your career to the next level. Don’t see it as the end of something. See it as the beginning of a new and exciting journey.
