Get Ready for Summer with a Healthy Lifestyle

Get Ready for Summer

When it’s freezing outside it can be easy to avoid leaving the house, instead opting to snuggle up on the sofa with sweet treats straight out of the oven. Winter gives us the perfect excuse to shun the outdoors – and that can also include exercise. That shouldn’t be the case though and if anything, we should be looking after ourselves even more during the spring and heading into summer!

We’re already dreaming about vacation season, and to help you get ready for summer, we’ve put together some simple tips on how you can refresh and prepare yourself!

Get Ready for Summer

  • It all starts with how you begin your day; hot water and lemon gets your digestion started so you feel fuller throughout the day, and it’s also a great source of vitamin C to help beat off colds and other bugs. It also helps aid detoxification in your liver – great for after an alcohol-fueled weekend.
  • Green smoothies are a good way to follow the hot water kick-starter, as not only are they packed full of nutrients and antioxidants but they also gives your digestive system a break from the normal routine of chewing and digesting solids. With a good break, you’ll be in top form when it comes to your elevenses snack.
  • Just because it’s not warm doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep yourself hydrated; central heating is a killer during the colder weather as it dries you out. Make sure there’s a glass of water, cordial or tea near you at all times throughout the day and you should aim to have a full liter drank by noon. If you want to mix up plain water, add some fruit for a subtle hint of flavor.
  • Your cupboards could do with a good clean out as the seasons change so you come home to a healthy variety of food. So bring in fresh, colorful options in the form of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. With no temptation in reach you’ll be feeling lighter and less weighed down, meaning hopefully you’ll get out there and do some exercise!
  • There’s lots of anti-bloating foods you can stock up on to help you too, with bananas, leafy greens, avocados, lentils and brown rice all making the cut (in moderation!)

You don’t have to go over the top with your workouts; going for a brisk walk around the park, or attending an indoor class, are both great options. Likewise, if you really don’t feel up to leaving the comfort of your own home, stick on a DVD/your favorite music and bust out some moves in your living room. As long as you get your heart racing and breathe quickening, you’re doing your body good!
