Professional + Comfortable = Confidence

You have probably heard the saying dress for success, and it is definitely a mantra that you should follow in the workplace. The way you dress has a massive impact on how you feel. While at work, it is all about striking the right balance between looking professional and feeling comfortable. This is the winning combination, which will make you feel confident, giving you the platform to achieve your full potential. After all, if you don’t feel good in what you are wearing, you are going to be more concerned about that than achieving your daily targets.

We have all seen women that attempt to work in six-inch heels simply because they believe it will create a better impression. If you can walk in these heels and they are not going to hurt your feet all day, great! Btu if you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious, it will show! Plus, you will spend your full working day feeling out of sorts and worrying about walking around the office, rather than concentrating on the important stuff. There are plenty of different styles of professional shoes that look good yet feel comfortable. You can even get felt shoes, which are a dream to wear. This is especially important if you are going to be on your feet all day.

Being comfortable is not only about the size of your heel or the fitting of your clothing, it is about being yourself. A lot of women are afraid to inject personality into their work wardrobe because they feel they have to conform to the norm, i.e. a black pencil skirt or a black pair of trousers and a white shirt. Unless this is the dress code for your place of work, you don’t have to wear black and white. You can play around with different colors and silhouettes. If you are a loud person, wear a bold color, like a red shirt.

Of course, maintaining professionalism at all a time is of paramount importance. Wearing a red shirt or trying a different style of skirt is fine, so long as that is not a mini skirt or your shirt doesn’t have an offense pattern on it. It is also a good idea to avoid busy prints. While they may be fashionable, they distract from you, and people end up focusing more on what you are wearing than the work you provide.

As you can see, it is all about feeling good and representing the brand when it comes to dressing for success in the workplace. If you follow the advice that has been provided, you should be able to achieve that all-important balance you are looking for. If you do not feel comfortable in something, don’t wear it. You were employed because of your unique traits, so there is no point trying to be someone you are not.
