Starting The Year Like A Boss

Lady Boss

2018 has arrived, and it is the perfect chance to put away those doubts and the stress of last year and start a fresh chapter in your life. There is no better time than now to take the opportunity to wipe a clean slate and take the year on head first. If you haven’t given thought to what you plan on achieving in the new year, then now really is the perfect time to look at your options. Do you want to get ahead in business? Lose a few of the pounds you put on during December? Change the way you live your life? By simply thinking about what you want and need you will find out how to achieve what you want this year and learn to stick to your goals.

1. Go On Autopilot

One of the things which sends most of us into early failure when looking for a way to make our goals come to fruition is often our willpower. When we wake up in the morning and think about everything we need to do, our brains become overwhelmed and it will often cause us to give up trying to take control. However, by creating a routine which makes us complete the same tasks at the same time each day, we end up working in autopilot and these behaviors become a habit. Try to stick to the same routine and set out a time for your goals each day. Eventually it will become second nature and you will be able to take full control.

2. Stay Out Of Harm’s Way

If you are working from home, you need to keep away any reminders of your location. It can be tempting to get up and do the washing, set off some food for dinner or clean the house- but remember that you are at work. If you have a spare room in the house use that as your office away from home. The same applies to if you are trying to be healthy- buy in fruits and vegetables and try to hide all of the chocolate you were gifted over Christmas. Keep temptations away and this will help you to stay motivated and in control.

3. Fight Your Busy Mind

A lot of the time when you are in the middle of working you may find your mind drifting off and wanting to quickly check your email, or get a snack from the kitchen. It is your ability to ignore these sudden impulses which will allow you to stay focused and find more success in the things you are trying to achieve.

4. Sleep

One of the biggest culprits for us feeling stressed and overwhelmed is a lack of sleep. If you struggle to sleep at night, try to wind down and shut down your phone and TV at least 30 minutes before you go to sleep, dim the lights and maybe try listening to a meditation CD. the average adult needs 8 hours of sleep a night, but there aren’t many of us who actually manage to get that much sleep. By waking up refreshed and energized you will be able to take control of the day.

5. Prioritize

First thing in the morning when your mind is fresh is the best time to try and complete the biggest tasks you need in the day. If it is work-related, go for the most important jobs first and wind down to the menial tasks later on, and if your goal is to lose weight: start the day with a workout and eat a healthy breakfast to set you up for a good day.

6. Eat Energy Rich Foods

If you struggle to keep your energy levels up throughout the day, you might need to start looking at snacking on energy rich foods in small doses through the day. Nuts, seeds and fruit are great ways to give your body a surge of glucose and help your mind focus on the task ahead, you will find that controlling your life is much easier if you do this.

7. One Job At A Time

Many people make the mistake of giving themselves a never-ending list of new year’s resolutions, but it can be the worst way to start the year. Instead, focus on one goal at a time, and once you’ve achieved that goal, start on another one. Amongst the usual suspects of losing weight, getting fitter and giving up unhealthy habits you can work on your overall mentality to lead to success. if you want to try something a little more out-of-the-box, you could look into ensuring that you project an aura of confidence. Whether it is simply ensuring you’re always dressed for success or splashing out for an upgrade to your car to ensure a sleek and business-like look – or just want a taste of the luxury you’re aspiring to. Whatever it may be, focus on the most important thing first. If it’s diet, then give yourself 28 days to make some small changes in your diet and build good habits before you start looking at anything else.
