Stick Or Twist? Is It Time You Looked For A New Job?

There comes a time in many people’s lives when they consider making changes. Change can be daunting, but it can also give you a new lease of life. If you’ve been thinking about looking for a new job, here are some tips to help you decide which direction to take.

Have you got a job you love?

Before you take the plunge and hand in your resignation, think about how much you enjoy and value your current job. Are you doing what you want to be doing? If so, you may not necessarily want to change career, but you may think about going for a promotion or changing the company you work for. If you’ve been in the same place for a long time and things are a little stale, a change of scenery may revitalize you and give you more motivation and enthusiasm. If you love what you do, but you want more out of your job, consider looking for vacancies at a higher level. This may be possible where you are, or it may involve looking further afield.

Have you got a dream job in mind?

Do you work to pay the bills? Did you take your current job to boost your bank balance while you look for something else? Have you got aspirations and dreams? If so, why not start taking steps towards hitting those targets? You don’t have to hand in your notice and risk losing everything, but think carefully about what you need to do to get to where you want to be. Do you need specific qualifications or could you look around for work placements or opportunities to gain experience? Sometimes, we make our minds up later in life, and this means that we don’t fit the person specification for every role. While this may not be ideal, it doesn’t mean that you have to give up. It is possible to study part-time or pursue courses such as those offered by Training Connection. It may take you a little longer to reach your goals, but it’s worth giving yourself the best shot at the prize. If you are thinking of changing career, do some research into courses and contact some firms to see if they offer internships or entry-level opportunities.

Are you a self-starter?

A growing number of people are taking risks when it comes to their careers and setting up on their own. If you’re a self-starter, you’re not afraid of hard work, and you want more control of your daily schedule and your salary, being your own boss could be an ideal choice for you. Consider your market, and think about how you’re going to use your skills to generate an income. If you work in consulting or accounting, for example, you could consider going freelance or creating your own consultancy or accountancy business.

If you’re stuck in a rut at work, you dream of doing something else every day or you’re keen to take more control over your career path, a change could be just what you need. If you’re not 100% happy, don’t plod along in the hope that something better may come along. Consider your options, and take action now.
