The 3 Main Steps to Landing Your Dream Job

Dream Job

Trying to land your dream job? Finding a job nowadays is more difficult than ever. It’s easy to lose hope when it feels like you have the world against you when it comes to getting employed.

Some employers seem to expect the moon on a stick for minimum wage. Others will claim that you’re overqualified as if that’s a negative thing. But don’t feel down. So many of us give ourselves a hard time if we are rejected or turned away. It’s not hard to see why. It’s a blow to confidence. But if you fall, get back up and try again. Most people don’t land their dream job first time around, so it’s important to just keep at it.

To make things easier, here are the three main steps to full-time employment and landing your dream job.

3 Steps to Landing Your Dream Job

Creating a Resume

The first step to getting your foot in the door of employment is an effective resume. First impressions are important, and this is the first glimpse that any employer will get of you. Whether you hand it over in-person or via email, it’s important to make sure that the content shines.

A resume is a summary of your qualifications, experience, and skills. But it can also radiate your personality. It is standard that you should include your personal details (name, address, contact details), qualifications (these can be academic or practical) and skills. Try to use as few words as possible. You don’t want to bore your reader or include irrelevant information. Once you have finished, get someone else to read it. This will help to check for any spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Job Hunting

Once you have a resume ready, it’s time to start job hunting! Nowadays, you can do this from the comfort of your home. So there’s no excuse for slacking.

Online job search sites can search for jobs all over the place, so select the options that best suit you. You will have to consider distance (how far you are willing to travel), salary (how much you expect to be paid) and most importantly, the type of job you’re after.

Here are a few sites to get you started:

Search for the positions that you think you are best suited for and follow the instructions. This may be submitting your resume through the site or directly to the employer. Searching for jobs in person is still a route taken by many employers, especially in the retail sector and hospitality and catering. If you hand your resume over in-person, make sure that you are well presented and polite.

Interviews

Interviews can be the most daunting part of the job application process. The employer has registered that you are good for the job on paper. Now they want to see whether you live up to their expectations. Research commonly asked interview questions online and practice your responses. But also be ready for spontaneous or irrelevant questions. Employers will often ask you something to catch you off guard in an attempt to see how you deal with difficult situations.

We wish you the best of luck in your job hunting process and landing your dream job!
