Going away on business can be stressful, especially for working moms. With all the stress and demands on your time, it can be easy to forget about the important things you need for your journey.
For your peace of mind, use this travel checklist to help you remember everything you need to do before you leave.
You don’t need to pack your entire wardrobe into your bags. Rather, choose the appropriate outfits, from your business clothes to the ones you will be traveling in. Comfort matters, on the plane and in the business meeting.
You may also want to bring your workout gear. You will want to look and feel your best during your meetings, so taking the time to workout for a few minutes before the working day starts will help you feel fresh and alert.
Other than clothes, toiletries, a good book for the plane, and your cell phone charger are other items you should bring with you.
Check your documents
You don’t want to get to the airport and find your passport has expired, so make sure you renew it in good time, as it may take several weeks before you get a new one.
Pack your travel documents, such as airline tickets and hotel confirmations into a separate folder, and secure them in your purse ready for easy access when you need them.
Make an itinerary
You need a detailed plan for your journey, as well as backup solutions. Do you intend to drive your car to the airport or will you take a cab? Will you be hiring a rental car when you step off the plane or will you be relying on public transport? You don’t want to run the risk of a travel disaster, so plan your journey every step of the way.
You are going away for a few days, but you don’t need to spend every minute working. There is some great advice here about making the most of your business trip, so make a plan before you go, and try and enjoy the travel experience.
Go to the dry cleaners
You want to look your best so have your outfit professionally cleaned, and don’t forget to pick it up again before you leave. Otherwise, you may end up having a meeting in your gym clothes, and that won’t be good for anybody!
Speak to your bank
When traveling out of the country, you can avoid charges by alerting your bank of your travel plans. Considering there are many risks in having your financial information stolen, your bank won’t freeze your account if they know it’s you using your card in another city.
Spend time with the kids
Finally, before you go, spend some quality time with your family. Set up times to contact them when you are away, either on the phone or Skype and mark down on a calendar the best times to talk. You will all feel better for keeping in touch.
