Want To Lend A Helping Hand To The Planet? Choose These Careers

It seems that now, more than ever, that we need to help our fellow human beings. Unemployment is high, tensions are high, and morale is low. And if you’re looking at the world thinking that you need to make a difference, there’s one major way to do this, choose a career that will benefit people. You don’t need to be a politician nowadays; there are so many instances of obesity, high crime, and mental health proving to be the epidemics of our time that we don’t need leaders, we need helpers! So, in choosing a career that will benefit this planet, it’s quite a wide net to cast, but here are three that cover various aspects of the modern epidemic spectrum.

Personal Trainer

Certainly, with the rising obesity problems in the world, the health and fitness side of things needs covering. The life of a personal trainer is a lucrative one if you have the know-how, but to begin with, you need to get the relevant qualifications. Many organizations cater for personal trainers, and there are some companies that offer a franchise deal, in exchange for your money, they will train you up, and put you in touch with the right people. By no means is this a guarantee to a wealthy life, but you are free to carve out your own niche for personal training. For example, the trends of CrossFit and intensity training means there are lots of people out there looking for a quick way to get fit but don’t have the time. But the best angle to come at it if you fully intend on becoming a personal trainer is to have a nutritional background also. Because people can almost find a personal trainer on every street corner, you need to offer that little extra something. Because people are so busy, they need a comprehensive workout routine that they don’t need to think about, but they also need a diet plan. If you can provide the whole package, this is going to guarantee you more clients. You can either choose to train people privately or work in a public gym. Lots of personal trainers supplement their income by leading classes, but it all depends on the type of fitness you are interested in. It can be a very antisocial job because if you’ve got clients that can only train at 9 o’clock at night or first thing in the morning, you could miss a lot of your personal life. However, for those people who set up their own personal training businesses, the option to fit it around your life is one of the perks, especially when it comes to self-employment.

Law Enforcer

If you want to work for the police, be prepared to join a long queue. Demand is high, but you can get a little closer to signing up if you show the right credentials beforehand. Part of the reason there is such a demand is that there are so many people signing up without the relevant qualifications. While we all have some idea of what being a police officer entails, the reality of the situation is something different to what you may see on television. The hours are long, the stress is high, and the pressures come at you from all directions. Depending on what strand of the police you choose to work in, you could be putting yourself in danger on a regular basis. If you find yourself in a situation where you might get physically assaulted, not only do you have to face the repercussions of this on your state of mind, but the paperwork alone could take a long period of time to complete. It depends on where you choose to be a police officer, or where you are stationed, depending on the demand for police officers, but if you end up in a place with high crime rates, you need to develop a well of resilience. It’s going to be a very difficult job, not just in terms of dealing with criminals of all types, but the impact of the job could put stress on your personal life. If you are prone to anxiety, it’s would be difficult to get accepted, but if you are determined to help people in this respect, it’s time to start focusing on your mental health. Some people spend so long going through training, rigorous exams, and getting into the police force to find that they can’t cope after a year or so. So, it’s far more beneficial for you, in the long run, to get a real handle what it means to be a police officer. If you can still picture yourself walking the beat, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t apply!

Counselor

There are so many different offshoots of the medical industry, but if you want to tackle the mental health crisis that we are experiencing in the western world, counseling or therapy will prove to be a very valuable career choice. Lots of people go into counseling because they’ve had experience of that environment themselves. They’ve either come through a mental health problem, such as depression or anxiety, and so they will want to do what they can to help someone else. The difference in your own thoughts and feelings about counseling, in comparison to someone that’s coming in to see you, either because they’ve been referred, or they just can’t cope anymore, is that you will face a lot of pressure. This pressure can be kept under control, by doing one simple thing, listening. Counselors need to be active listeners and know how to guide someone in the right direction. This does mean a lot of playing with mental jigsaw pieces, but the satisfaction you get in helping someone solve a lifelong problem is immense. As far as training is concerned, there are specific counseling qualifications, such as certificates or diploma qualifications, which are then combined with experience out in the “field.” Many counselors are employed on a part-time basis, and many do it voluntarily. The one benefit of general counseling work is that it holds regular office hours, but there has been a rise in distance counseling facilities, such as helping people through online services. The one big issue that needs addressing with regards to your own attitudes to counseling is that you need to not invest yourself personally. If you feel that you want to help others, your emotions can get the better of you, and you can become over-invested. And this is a very difficult line to stay on the right side of. But if you feel the need to help others for their hands believe you can make a benefit to other people’s lives by using therapy techniques like CBT or mindfulness, or you feel you are a great listener, this is a great career choice.

These three careers are all different sides to the same coin, the personal trainer is needed now because people need guidance on how to eat and exercise right, law enforcement is something that will never go away, and counselors are desperately needed because of suffering health industries. We feel that, with the modern pressures of the world that we need to look after ourselves more. But you need to start projecting your care outwards, and picking up a career that is beneficial to your fellow human being is the perfect place to start.
